Kim Kardashian and Kanye West welcomed Chicago into their family on January 15, 2018, through surrogacy. The announcement was made via Kim’s app and website.
“Kanye and I are happy to announce the arrival of our healthy, beautiful baby girl. We are incredibly grateful to our surrogate who made our dreams come true with the greatest gift one could give and to our wonderful doctors and nurses for their special care,” wrote the businesswoman.
The socialite also shared details about the birth, noting that Chicago was born at 12:47 a.m. PT and weighed 7 pounds, 6 ounces.
Reports at the time from outlets such as E! News, ABC News, and BBC News confirmed the arrival of the couple’s third child, whose name was revealed days later as “Chicago West.”

The couple’s decision to use a surrogate was due to health risks that Kim faced during her previous pregnancies. In her announcement, she also mentioned how thrilled her older children, North and Saint, were to welcome their baby sister.

Chicago, along with her siblings North, Saint, and Psalm, has been raised by her mother as the primary caregiver following Kim’s divorce from Kanye.
The divorce was finalized in November 2022, after a long and highly publicized process. According to People, the media personality was “very relieved” after reaching an agreement with her ex-husband.

“Although Kim and Kanye share custody [of the kids], Kim is the primary caregiver,” the source revealed. “They agreed that Kanye needs to speak to Kim in private about any complaints and not go public with them. She wants the kids to be protected.” Despite challenges, Kim expressed hope for smooth co-parenting going forward.
